The Great Lakes Folk FestivalThe Great Lakes Folk Festival is Mid-Michigan favorite. It takes place in East Lansing, Michigan home of the Michigan State University Spartans. This is a great place for folk artisans and musicians to broadcast their talent, and a great way to introduce your children to the core of folk culture. Whether you are into art, music, performers, or just great food the Great Lakes Folk Festival has a lot to offer. There is public transportation running back and forth to the downtown East Lansing area where the Festival is held and it goes on for several days giving everybody a chance to experience the real folk culture that the Festival has to offer. The African World FestivalThe African World Festival is held in Detroit, Michigan and is another one of the popular things to do in Michigan. This is a great place to see sorority and fraternity step shows, authentic African dances, and get some great cultural food in your belly and music in your ears. This festival is not about being African American, it is about celebrating the African culture and so everybody is welcome. The Michigan Renaissance FestivalEverybody loves a Renaissance Festival, and the Michigan Renaissance Festival held in Holly in the month of August is a Midwest favorite. For the time of the festival, Holly turns into a huge Renaissance throwback model, complete with musicians and vendors, sword swallowers, street performers, and everyone wearing authentic garb. This is a great way to teach your kids about another place in time, and with the infamous jousting tournaments everybody has a chance to get their share of excitement. Cascades Civil War MusterIf you are all about civil war reenactments, this is the place to be in August. This is Michigan's most longstanding civil war reenactment and celebration, and it takes place right in Jackson, Michigan. It is complete with a military ball, authentically reconstructed Confederate and Union camps, live music, food, and a whole lot more. The Detroit Jazz FestivalHeld in Detroit, Michigan the Detroit Jazz Festival is one of the region's favorite things to do in Michigan. More than 15,000 people attend this "small affair" and musicians travel from all over to be a part of it. The Michigan Womyn's FestivalHeld on a huge plot of land in Michigan, the Michigan Womyn's Festival is a must do for men and women all across the Midwest. This is a party in which everybody has something to benefit from. If you like great food, live music, and more this is likely unlike anything you have ever seen before. This is one of those affairs where many people choose to camp and being that there is more than 650 acres of space there is plenty of space to camp alone or in a large group. Woodward Dream CruiseIf you love cars and car cruises, the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit, Michigan will be one of your favorite things to do in Michigan! It is one of those things that you should definitely make sure not to miss. This event draws more than a million car lovers every year and the total event is one week long.
