Visitor Suggested Vacation Spot:
I can't believe Beaver Island is not already on this list!
The Great Lakes' most remote inhabited island is rich in natural beauty and a remarkable history. Beautiful beaches, inland lakes, plenty of forest and hundreds of miles of trails makes this place a great place for outdoor enthusiasts.
James Strang led nearly 2000 Mormon's from Nauvoo, Illinois, here in 1848 and two years later had himself crowned King of the Mormons - the only king ever crowned on American soil. Then there was the Russian "doctor," Feodore Protar who sought refuge here and lived out his life serving the people on the island.
You absolutely must make Beaver Island one of your places to see!
