Michigan Babymoon Vacation

Looking for a romantic way to reconnect before your baby arrives? Why not try a Michigan Babymoon vacation? The article below will explain this growing romantic vacation getaway option.

Babymoon Vacations

By Lisa Petrocelli from Babymoonguide.com

Sporting creative names like "Last Hurrah", "Bundle of Joy" and "Bliss Before Baby", this babymoon vacation package is one of the hottest trends in travel today.

What is It?

For many expecting couples, taking a pre-baby getaway has moved to the top of the pre-baby to-do list. According to a survey by BabyCenter, a popular online resource for new and expectant parents, 59% of new parents have taken a babymoon and more than two million babymoons are taken by U.S. parents-to-be each year.

The term "babymoon" was coined by British author and childbirth educator Sheila Kitzinger. Originally, it was defined as the period of time after a baby's birth that the family spends alone together, to facilitate bonding between parents and baby. In recent years, the meaning of the word "babymoon" has grown to include the pre-baby getaways taken by expecting parents. The travel industry has jumped on the bandwagon by creating wonderful, upscale vacation packages that cater to parents-to-be.

When planning a babymoon vacation, most couples are simply looking for relaxation, quality time together and a little bit of pampering. Babymoons tend to be a bit more indulgent than regular vacations and most babymoon packages feature at least a few indulgences for the expecting parents.

Top Tips

Here are some tips for planning your perfect babymoon.

Babymoon - Time it right - For most pregnant women, the second trimester is the most pleasant time to travel. By this time, the nausea of the first trimester is hopefully a distant memory and the discomfort of the third trimester is yet to come. According to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the safest time for a pregnant woman to travel is between 18-24 weeks.

- Consult the doctor – Ask your doctor if there are any medical concerns you need to consider and verify that it is ok for you to travel. If your babymoon includes international travel, consult with your physician regarding preventive measures such as vaccines and region-specific travel precautions.

- Savor the downtime - For a truly enjoyable babymoon, savor the downtime rather than filling the pre-baby vacation with nonstop activities or tours. Couples should seize the opportunity to sleep-in, linger over dinner and read a book by the pool – all things that become more remarkably more difficult to do with a little one in tow.
