Vacation Tips from Ann Arbor Locals:

My Ann Arbor Tips Submitted by John

Ann Arbor Arboretum Ann Arbor is best known as the home of the University of Michigan, a Big Ten school. Many visitors, of course, enjoy attending a football game or visiting the beautiful University campus and its Natural History museum, Observatory, and Arboretum.

But you might not know about Ann Arbor's annual Art Fair, the award-winning children's Hands On Museum, the historic Cobblestone Farm, and the beautiful Mathaei Botanical Gardens.

If you're looking for a bite to eat, you've come to the right place, since Ann Arbor is said to have more restaurants per capita than any other city in the nation. Local favorites include the relaxed Arbor Brewery, Grizzly Peak, and Zola's cafe. If you're looking for something more upscale, The Chophouse, The Earle, and The Real Seafood Company are sure to please.

Ann Arbor is conveniently located near Detroit and the Great Lakes area, so don’t forget to visit the world-class casinos and shopping malls, as well as getting some sun and sand at some great area beaches on your Ann Arbor getaway.

The Best College Town Submitted by Kyle

U of M Ann Arbor My hometown is Ann Arbor. It is the best college town I have ever been to, and with that comes a lot of activities. During the summer, the Ann Arbor film festival is a must, with free outdoor showings of classic movies.

Also the legendary Art Fair is just pure fun to browse and look. Everything from sculpture, painting, fiber art, and bookbinding is on display.

Restaurants are easy to get in and out of during the summer. Some of my favorites include the Red Hawk, Zingerman’s Roadhouse and the Earle for their mussels.

Of course there is no shortage of coffee shops anywhere in town. The Arboretum and Botanical Gardens (just outside of Ann Arbor) make for beautiful places to walk and relax.

The summer is overall the best time to visit as the college students are absent and the town is “your own”. (But then again the students have made the city what it is today. You can’t blame them.)
