Silver Lake Michigan

Looking for an Adventure Vacation Getaway?

If an adventure vacation getaway is what you are after--then Silver Lake Michigan is one of the best family beach vacation choices anywhere.

It is the home of Silver Lake State Park a 3000-acre dream getaway for adventure lovers. The park includes both 1200 acres of sand dunes and an area of mature forestland. It also contains four miles of Lake Michigan shoreline plus a beautiful large sandy beach.

Why is it your adventure vacation destination? The rolling sand dunes are 1.5 miles wide and 3 miles long! They are the coolest places for exploration and hiking, and the 450-acres of land available for off-road vehicles.

Adventure vacation fun Off-roading

Off-roading in Silver Lake is fun and exciting for the whole family. Dune vehicle rentals are available. So rev them up and test your sand driving ability! No other dune area in Michigan allows vehicle access…so this is the place to be.

Hiking

Hiking the dunes is almost as much fun. I remember as a child how much fun I had trying to run down the dunes faster than my dad. It is fun to see my own kids trying that same thing today! You can hike from Silver Lake Michigan on one side right to the Lake Michigan shoreline on the other. Don’t forget the camera. The views are spectacular!

More Silver Lake Activities

Other Silver Lake area activities include swimming, biking, sailing, canoeing, fishing, and horseback riding. You can even enjoy golf at Colonial Golf Course--an 18-hole championship course set amid rolling hills along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Like to Play in the Water?

If you are like us and love water play, there are boats and wave runners are available for you to cruise around Silver Lake and enjoy the scenery of the dunes in the background. Don’t forget to cool off with a swim in Lake Michigan or build a sandcastle at the beach!

The east side of the lake is so shallow that you can walk out really far and it is still up to your knees. The dune side of the lake is quite different...it drops off very quickly!

Want Else Can You Do?

After an exciting day on beach, in the water or off-roading the Silver Lake Michigan sand dunes, spend a relaxing evening in Silver Lake village.

You could check of one of the many great restaurants in the area and then leisurely browse the unique specialty shops offering everything from antiques and clothing to gifts and candy. There are also things like miniature golf, go-karts, paddle boats, bumper cars, and many other activities to round out what will be one of your best family beach vacations ever.

The kids love BubbaQs for the biggest hand-dipped ice-cream cones around!

When is the best time to visit?

Summer weekdays are ideal times for families to visit Silver Lake. You can easily enjoy the lake the beach and the area without a lot of crowds.

But if you are into crowds and action, summer weekends are packed with lots of people cruising the water and cruising the "strip." (Just don't expect to go anywhere fast!)
