40 Mile Point Lighthouse in Rogers City

by R. Hull
(Holly, MI)

40 Mile Point Lighthouse

40 Mile Point Lighthouse

40 Mile Point Lighthouse is a wonderful place to visit. There is something for virtually everyone.

Some will simply enjoy strolling or picnicking on the shores of Lake Huron, perhaps pausing for a few moments near the wreck of the schooner Fey. Others will be excited by the opportunity to experience the feeling of being a ship’s captain by going inside the pilot house of the Calcite, a former Great Lakes steamer.

Still others will be fascinated by the contents of the museum located in the old keeper’s quarters. If at all possible, everyone should climb to the top of the 52 foot tower and enjoy the view of Lake Huron all the way across to Canada. While you are up in the octagonal cast-iron lantern room, pay special attention to the antique Fresnal light.
